Though making felt stockings might not sound all that exciting, making felt stockings with decorations punched out is definitely a cut above. The number of instructions available on the Internet for making felt stockings says it all, humdrum, insert yawn. But, when you embellish them with hand punched motifs, you’ve made something out of the ordinary, and the truth of the matter is it will not require that mush additional effort.

I recommend that you buy a template, or templates for the design you would like to make on the stockings. Free hand sounds good, until you attempt it, trust me on this one. This is especially true if you are doing names, or letters of any sort.

Place the template on the side of the stocking that you would like the pattern to appear. Trace the design onto it with disappearing ink and punch till your hearts content. I must warn you that there is a strong chance that you will get punch happy, so have other things on hand to move on to so you do not get carried away on the stockings.
